1. Spiritual and Cultural Heart
When you arrive in Ubud, the deep connection to spirituality and tradition is immediately clear. As the cultural heart of Bali, Ubud is home to temples, ceremonies, and everyday practices steeped in Balinese Hinduism. Iconic spots like the Sacred Monkey Forest and Pura Taman Saraswati offer glimpses into this rich spiritual world, with daily rituals and offerings that reflect the town's deep-rooted beliefs.
Keep an eye out for the colorful "canang sari" offerings on the streets, made from palm leaves and filled with flowers, rice, and incense. These small offerings, placed outside homes and shops, are an expression of gratitude by the Balinese, adding a spiritual touch to daily life. Just remember to watch your step—these offerings hold deep significance and are an important part of the local culture.
2. Yoga Heaven in Ubud
Ubud is often called the "Yoga Capital of Bali," and it's easy to see why. With its peaceful atmosphere and lush green surroundings, Ubud is the perfect place to reconnect with your body and mind. You'll find yoga studios offering everything from calming Yin and Hatha yoga to more dynamic Vinyasa flows and workshops like Breathwork and ecstatic dance.
One of my favorite studios in Ubud is the Alchemy Yoga Center. It's the perfect spot to unwind, relax, and experience a truly unique yoga class, led by incredibly skilled teachers. If you're up for a challenge, I highly recommend Will's Fire Classes (advanced). Alchemy Yoga Center is conveniently located just off the street, and as soon as you step inside the gardens, you're transported into a peaceful, lush green oasis.
Another favorite of mine is Ubud Yoga House (see images below), which offers stunning sunrise and sunset classes right in the middle of the rice fields—definitely an experience you won't forget!

If your guesthouse doesn’t have a pool and you’re craving some relaxation, don’t worry—Ubud has plenty of day spas and spots where you can unwind in a pool for a small fee or by committing to spend a set amount.
Take Jungle Fish for example—here, you can reserve a sunbed by the pool with a commitment to spend 350,000 IDR (around US $22) on food and drinks. There’s no entry fee; you just agree to a minimum spend, which is a pretty sweet deal for such a beautiful setting. When I visited, I treated myself to a mocktail, two mini burgers, a smoothie, and even Bao Buns to take away!
And if you’re looking to relax in a pool surrounded by massive rice fields, check out TIS Cafe in the famous Tellagalang Rice Fields—a perfect spot for a day of relaxation in the midst of incredible views.
Note: Jungle Fish is the perfect relaxation getaway located just outside Ubud in between the rice fields. Also, the Chapung Spa, mentioned above, is located on the same property, making it the perfect pamper day with a finish-off at Jungle Fish's pool.
