Doha, the capital city of Qatar, is a beautiful city often overlooked by many travelers. Situated on the Persian Gulf coast, Doha is a quickly growing city, with more than half of Qatar's population living in or around the region. With that being said, the city has a lot to offer. Whether you're looking to explore the history and culture of Qatar or want to relax on the beach, Doha has something for everyone!
In no specific order, I will share what I consider to be the top six things to do in Doha to help you make the most of your time in this fantastic city!
6 - Museum of Islamic Art
The Museum of Islamic Art in Doha is an impressive structure that overlooks the city from its location on the Corniche peninsula. It houses one of the world's most comprehensive collections of Islamic art, including objects from all over the Muslim world.
The museum is organized into galleries that reflect Islamic art's different periods and styles. One of the museum's highlights is the spectacular glass dome covering the central atrium. The museum also has a café and a shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs!
5- Souq Waqif
The Souq Waqif (marketplace) is a must-see for anyone visiting Doha. The market is full of traditional Arab culture, from clothing and jewelry to food and drinks. It's a fabulous place to stroll around and take in the wonders of this unique corner of the world.
Be sure to try some of the local specialties while you're there. Shawarma, a type of grilled meat sandwich, is popular in Qatar and can be found at many of the stalls in the Souq Waqif. Another must-try is "qahwa," a strong coffee with spices popular throughout the Middle East.
4 - Katara Cultural Village
The Katara Cultural Village in Doha is the perfect destination for anyone interested in traditional Arab culture. The village is home to several museums, galleries, performance venues, and a conventional souq (marketplace). A popular attraction at Katara is the Drama Theatre, which tells the story of Qatar's history and culture through dance and music.
3- Katara Beach
Katara beach is probably one of the most beautiful beaches in Doha. It's perfect for a relaxing day by the water with friends or family. The sand is white, and the water is crystal clear. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas to choose from, as well as a few restaurants and cafes if you get hungry. Make sure to visit Katara beach during your stay in Doha!
2 - Dhow Harbor
The Dhow Harbor in Doha is a beautiful and relaxing place to visit. It is home to many of the traditional Dhow boats that can be seen sailing through the waters of the Arabian Gulf. Try visiting the Dhow Harbor in the early morning for a beautiful sunrise along the docks. In general, the harbor is a great place to take a walk, relax, and enjoy the views.
1- Villaggio Mall
If you're looking for a place to do some shopping while in Doha, the Villaggio Mall is the perfect place to go. The lovely Villaggio Mall is one of the most popular shopping destinations in the country. It features various luxury stores and restaurants inspired by Venetian-style art and architecture. There is even a small amusement park located within the mall! The mall is open seven days a week and is bustling on weekends.
