If you're looking for the perfect tropical getaway that offers the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and vibrant marine life, Gili Trawangan (also know as Gili T) in Lombok, Indonesia, should be at the top of your travel list. For nature enthusiasts and snorkeling lovers, Gili Trawangan is a haven for underwater exploration. The crystal-clear waters surrounding the island teem with vibrant marine life, including majestic sea turtles. Snorkel right off the beach, and you'll likely encounter these gentle giants up close. There are even designated turtle points to increase your chances of seeing them in their natural habitat. During my week in Gili T I saw countless turtles each time I snorkelled, It was really magical!

2. A Scuba Diver's Paradise

Scuba diving is a must while visiting the island! Gili Trawangan is renowned for its thriving coral reefs and diverse marine ecosystems. Whether you're a seasoned scuba diver or a beginner looking to get certified, this island offers some of the best dive sites in Indonesia. Also, there are numerous dive schools are available, catering to divers of all levels. During my visit, I had an incredible experience with "Trawangan Dive," which provided an exciting, fun dive while exploring the vibrant underwater world.

3. Culinary Delights


Spoiler alert! Gili T is a foodie paradise! The island's food scene is as diverse as its marine life, from local warungs serving up traditional Indonesian dishes to international cuisine at beachfront cafes and restaurants, including the renowned La Cala Beach Club, where you can savor fresh seafood with your toes in the sand, The Banyan Tree Cafe, a trendy spot known for its delicious smoothie bowls (images above) and Instagram-able meals, and Casa Vintage Beach, a perfect spot for indulging in delicious Caribbean food (images below) while watching the sunset. The chef at Casa Vintage Beach even won us over with a taste of his homemade Jamaican stew, which we ended up enjoying by the beach. Additionally, Casa Vintage Beach offers organic homemade fruit wine; I tried the passionfruit wine which was delicious.

Additionally, there's a local food market located in the middle of the island. What makes the dining experience even more special is the warm hospitality of the locals and owners of my stay. They invited me for a meal at the local food spot, offering an authentic taste of Gili Trawangan.


4. A Vibrant Nightlife

Gili Trawangan offers a vibrant nightlife scene. The island comes alive after dark with beachfront parties, live music, and fire-dancing performances. For those seeking bigger parties, consider booking a stay at a party hostel on the west side, such as Mad Monkey Hostel (US$ 66 for five nights), known for hosting big foam parties in their pool. Next to it is Rabbit Jump, which has a platform for pool jumping. However, if you're not into the party scene, don't worry; there are plenty of other places on the island where you can relax and enjoy a quieter atmosphere.



5. Serene Retreats

Unlike its party reputation, Gili Trawangan also has a quiet side. You can easily find peaceful, laid-back accommodations on the island, including charming beachfront bungalows, tranquil resorts, and places like the Cape Rose Hotel, where I stayed. This clean and comfortable hotel offers a pool for relaxation. It's a place to unwind and relax.

6. Movie Nights by the Beach

What could be more beautiful than watching a movie with the sound of waves lapping at the shore? Some beach bars on Gili Trawangan, like the Open Air Cinema at the Royal Sunset Bar, offer free movie nights by the beach, creating a unique and magical cinema experience. You can buy sweet or salty popcorn at a stand in front of the movie theatre for US$1,30. The movie screening is free, and you can enjoy a happy hour. Plus, you can order food and drinks to your bean bags in the sand, making it an unforgettable movie night.

7. Bicycle Bliss

There are no motorized vehicles on the island, making it a haven for cyclists. Rent a bicycle (US$2.50 a day) and explore the island's beautiful landscapes and hidden gems at your own pace. Cruise through coconut groves, pass by friendly locals, and soak in the island's natural beauty.

8. Sunsets that Take Your Breath Away
